Creating monitoring templates

A template adopts the saved configuration of an existing device. First, fully configure a reference device and save it.

1. Open Devices → Templates, or Save as template on the configured device.

2. Enter a Template name.

3. Under Copy settings from, select the reference device.

4. Enable Use saved credentials as shared credentials if the target devices should use the same credentials.

5. Under Which devices to apply to?, select the target devices if applicable.

6. Without a target selection: click Save template.

7. With a target selection: click Save and continue. Preview and application then follow through Edit selected devices.

Without shared credentials, target devices retain their existing credentials. If a target does not yet have suitable saved credentials, configure them on the target first or apply suitable shared credentials. Missing secrets cannot be supplied from a template without shared credentials. SSH server keys and TLS fingerprints must be confirmed separately for each target. Device dependencies, expected VMs and individual interface rules are not copied. Web addresses that point to the reference device’s address are adapted to the target; other web addresses remain unchanged.

Additional existing checks on the target devices are retained when the template is applied. Changed URLs, ports or access methods start new measurement series.
