Device activation and service contract

Under Activation, you manage the allowed number of devices and the installed activation file. File verification works without internet access on the monitoring server.

All measurement functions are available in every tier. Activated device entries are counted, including paused devices and devices without a configured check. Checks and interfaces do not occupy additional slots. A virtual machine created as a separate device counts as a device.

Request and apply an activation file

  1. Open Activation.

  2. In 1. Installation ID, select either Copy ID or Save request file.

  3. Send the copied ID or request file to the manufacturer. It contains the details needed to create the installation-specific activation file.

  4. Save the received .nmlic file unchanged on your computer.

  5. Under 2. Upload activation file → Select activation file, choose the file and click Check file.

  6. Check the contract tier, customer, contract number and validity in the preview.

  7. Click Apply activation. Only then does the application replace or save the file. The new device count applies immediately.

A file for another installation, a damaged file or an already expired file is rejected. A future activation can only be applied from its contract start date. The displayed contract end date is valid through the specified day in UTC. If the activation has been changed concurrently, the file must be checked again.

Select devices for a smaller tier

When the service contract expires, the free limit of ten devices applies. Existing devices and measurement histories remain saved; the normal retention period continues. If more devices exist and no selection has been made, all device checks remain blocked until you select the allowed devices.

  1. Open Activation → Select devices.

  2. Under Selection for, select the relevant number of devices. The 10 devices – after contract expiry selection can be prepared while a contract is still valid.

  3. Search by name or address and mark the desired devices under Keep, up to the permitted number.

  4. Click Save device selection.

The selection for the currently valid tier takes effect immediately. A selection prepared for contract expiry only takes effect after expiry. Unselected devices are displayed as Not activated, remain saved and receive no new checks or connection tests. An empty saved selection blocks all device checks for that tier. Load saved selection discards your unsaved changes and loads the existing selection.
